Core Competency Reflections
Core competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that are important for success in school and in life. Students from kindergarten to grade 12 are invited to complete reflections and self-assessments to understand who they are as learners, communicators and thinkers as well as how caring, self-regulating, self-determined, resilient and personally and socially responsible they are as people. All RHS teachers use the language of the Core Competencies, along with the IB Learner Profile and the RHS Learner Profile, to support and frame student learning. All students are regularly invited to consider these attributes and competencies and reflect on their personal strengths and areas for growth.
Over the course of the school year, all RHS students in grades 8 to 12 will complete 3 reflections on one or more aspects of the core competencies. RHS teachers will invite their students to reflect on how an assignment, project or aspect of their class relates to one of the core competencies. There are templates that have been created and can be found on students' SpacesEDU account. Each student is expected to have this completed by the end of June.
