RSS National Indigenous Peoples' Day Celebration
Richmond Secondary students and staff are celebrating the distinct cultures and unique traditions of Canada's Indigenous peoples at our fourth annual RSS National Indigenous Peoples' Day Celebration. On Friday, June 13, we welcome Alec Dan, knowledge keeper for Musqueam Nation, to open the celebration with a land acknowledgement and blessing.
Our EFP 10 classes collaborated on zines (mini, self-published books) with Indigenous artist, curator, writer, and illustrator Whess Harman. These works reflect the students’ learning, creativity, and voices — and they will be on display in the LLC as part of our celebration. To honour this work and the artists who inspired it, students will have an opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops and guided zine exploration sessions, hosted by students and supported by two Indigenous artist guests Kwiis Hamilton and Whess Harman.
