June Classroom Visits
Our Student Focus group continued to meet regularly throughout the school year and we designed a series of "posters" to display our RHS Learner Profile. One of the staff members in our group took the student feedback and produced a poster using Adobe.
A smaller subgroup of students agreed to meet to plan out a "mini-lesson" and facilitate a discussion on the "Learner Profile" with more students. This group of four students visited a Grade 8 Art class, a Grade 9 Social Studies class and a Grade 11 Social Studies class and led 40 minute activities with the students. We found that all students were very interested in talking about and debating the attributes of a "successful person" and also in the process the Student Focus Group went through this year. The students worked individually, in small groups and shared out their ideas. All students were also asked to write three things they liked about the poster and three suggestions for improvement and all feedback was collected. Student comments were generally very positive and, when asked, "how might we have these attributes more widely used in our school?", the student feedback was both constructive and supportive of the idea.
