Author Visit with David Robertson

In November, we hosted award-winning Indigenous Canadian author David Alexander Robertson in-person at Richmond Secondary and virtually across the district.  David shared important messages about reconciliation and the importance of representation.  He believes that reconciliation is a shared responsibility and that we need to start by educating ourselves by reading and listening to stories told by Indigenous artists.  "Words need to become actions that will create meaningful and long-lasting change."  Here are some additional wise and thought-provoking quotes and messages David shared with our students:

"Stories helped me to heal."

"Stories, they should teach you about yourself and they should teach you about the people around you...when you see yourself reflected in literature in positive ways and accurate ways it helps you to develop a stronger sense of self."

"What is the point of knowing if you don't do anything with it?"

"...we are working towards a time when we have systems in place that treat everybody equitably."

"You need to be a leader today and tomorrow."
