RSS National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration

We chose to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 15 so that our Indigenous students and families could spend June 21 together.  The inaugural RSS National Peoples Day Celebration was a multi-class collaboration organized and led by the RSS Indigenous Education Team and made possible by a grant from the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).  The celebration included a guest appearance by Elder Rose Guerin, a Pow Wow dance performance by the The Wild Moccasin Dancers, bannock and jam, lavender tea, and the following student-run interactive activities:

  • Indigenous Peoples Trivia
  • Importance of Cedar
  • First Nations Languages of BC Map
  • Weaving
  • Indigenous Plants and Herbs
  • Ceremony
  • Identifying Animal Hides by Touch
  • Origami Salmon and Eagles
