Symposium on the Holocaust

Richmond Secondary School is honoured to host the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre and a symposium for students during the morning of Monday March 12. All of our Grades 10 and 11 students will participate in a half-day program that will include a historical overview of the Holocaust, a short film, an expert speaker and a survivor speaker, followed by a panel discussion and a Q&A session for students.  We are pleased to welcome Dr. Chris Friedrichs, a history professor at UBC and David Ehrlich, a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. After Auschwitz was evacuated, David survived a three-day 'death march' to Mauthausen and then Melk. David came to Canada as a 'war orphan' in 1947.

The morning symposium promises to be an incredible opportunity for RHS students to listen to an expert and a survivor, and to think, ask questions, reflect and learn more about this significant and dark time in human history, and how understanding the Holocaust is important, and remains connected to serious issues in the world today.
